The location was unbeatable, quite a walk from Edinburgh Waverley. the staff were personable and informative. - Everything was spotless. - Luxurious room, that also was fairly quiet on the first level. Rewritten: the location was perfect,...

We enjoyed marvellous and handy location!!
This hotel is brilliant, has enthusiastic employees especially the manager on arrival. The room was bright & immaculate, with views of the royal mile. Generally everything was great, though the bathroom was very small....

It was very centrally located. One could walk to almost every single main attraction in Edinburgh. Just down the street from Edinburgh Castle. Rooms in the hotel were very picturesque, each honoring a famous Scotsman, such as Robert Louis Stevenson and Robert Burns. Ours honored James Simpson, a pioneer of anesthesia, in the form of chloroform. One wall of the room was shelves in an apothecary shop, with dozens of bottles and various vials and potions. There were several bookcases of medical books. The dresser drawers were all made to look like drawers which would be holding patients' and prescriptions' information. All in all it was quite delightful. Although the rooms were located atop a very busy pub, on a very busy street, it was very quiet.
The bathtub is way too high for short people, elderly people, or anyone with any sort of handicap. The bottom of the tub is very slick, therefore dangerous as well. I prayed that I wouldn't fall and hurt myself every time I got in and out and while I was showering. As careful as I was I hurt my knee, badly bruising it, while getting out of the tub. But it seems like all the tubs in Great Britain are similar to that. I wonder why there aren't more bathtub related incidents, or maybe there are?...

liked the idea of the themed rooms and would consider staying again to view what the other rooms are like. tv in great working order and dvd player and fridge were a nice touch.
having to walk through the busy bar on a friday night to get to our room we endured a crude comment and although we could not hear any noise from the bar downstairs we were kept awake with people in the next room playing loud music.

Excellent location right on the Royal mile. Friendly and forthcoming staff and bed was clean and nice. We booked a room w/ doublebed, but when we wanted to change it to 2 single beds the staff did it without problems.
Room was very expensive compared to the comfort. You pay for the location. Don't expect anything fancy.

View is good.
This hotel has brilliant and super location in the city centre. Luxurious and elegant rooms, plus the staff is amenable. Top-notch service and the food is well presented.
